Fraxel® Laser Treatment Skin Resurfacing
Fractional Resurfacing with a Million Points of Light™ with results you can see and feel.
|
What is Fraxel®?
A new laser treatment that repairs sun damage, combats the effects of time, and rejuvenates the skin to produce soft, smooth, incredible results.
What makes Fraxel® different from other laser treatments?
Fraxel® Laser Treatment improves your appearance by affecting only a fraction of your skin at a time. Fraxel® produces thousands of tiny treatment zones on the skin, known as Micro Thermo Zones (MTZs). These MTZs penetrate deep into the dermis and eliminate old epidermal pigmented cells. The Fraxel® Laser targets only the damaged area, while leaving the surrounded tissue unaffected and intact. This "fractional" treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections.
How fast are the results?
After your very first Fraxel® Laser Treatment, you will begin to feel the difference in your skin as it gradually becomes softer, smoother, and fresher. After several treatments, your friends and family will marvel at how youthful and healthy your skin looks.
What does Fraxel Laser Treatment entail?
Before starting the treatment, you and Dr. Caruso will discuss which area(s) of your skin is appropriate for treatment and how many treatments you will need. The most effective regime is three to five sessions, spaced about 3-4 weeks apart. Fraxel Laser Treatment can be performed right in Dr. Caruso's office using only topical anesthesia in most cases. The skin is thoroughly washed prior to the procedure, and OptiGuide Blue, an FDA certified water-soluble tint, is applied to the treatment area to highlight the contours of the skin. The tint is washed off after treatment.
What happens after treatment?
You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour and then virtually no discomfort. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing deeply, that dermal tissue is being repaired, and there is good blood circulation. Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in two to three days. New epidermal skin develops immediately, within 24 hours.
This process of skin repair includes:
- Bronzing: The skin will have a bronze appearance that lasts from three to fourteen days.
- Flaking: Your skin will naturally exfoliate as the new skin replaces the dead tissue. Moisturizer will mask the appearance of flaking.
- Sunscreen: Apply a 30-plus sunscreen twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure.
How long is the recovery period after treatment?
Typically patients find they can go back to work soon after the treatment or the next day. |
